Join us for Lights of Love 2022

We’re already preparing our annual festive service of remembrance, and for the first time in three years it is being held in person.

We’ll be hosting the Lights of Love service in the grounds of our Shrewsbury hospice on Sunday 4 December.

Wem Jubilee Band will provide the music and there will be singing and poignant readings and reflections from speakers. The service will culminate in the lighting of the hospice’s Christmas tree and moments of silence to remember loved ones missing at Christmas.

The pandemic prevented in-person events, forcing the hospice to switch to a virtual format. This proved popular with supporters as it meant families and friends could come together wherever they were in the world. This year’s event will again be filmed and made available by the hospice’s website.

The hospice needs to raise £2 from the community for every £3 it spends on care and Lights of Love supports the charity as it enables people to dedicate a light to a loved one on the tree and make a donation.

Tracie Harrison, Severn Hospice’s director of Income Generation is overseeing preparations.

“This is my first Christmas at Severn Hospice and I have heard so much about Lights of Love. It is an event many people hold dear, so it is wonderful that we are finally going to be able to meet up in person for the service this year.

“Our pre-recorded virtual services, which were broadcast on our website each Christmastime for the past two years, were very well received, but we know how much it matters to gather together in person to remember the people we love and miss.

“It is the first time we’ve hosted the event in our actual grounds and great thought and care have gone into making this service as special as it can be, and we hope that it shows how our support and care continue beyond our clinical services.”

Lights of Love will take place at 4pm on Sunday 4 December at Severn Hospice, Bicton Heath, Shrewsbury. A webpage has been set up to receive dedications for the tree: www.severnhospice.org.uk/lights

Severn Hospice cares for around 3,000 people each year for free who are living with incurable illness in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, and Mid Wales. But this is not without cost – it must raise £2 for every £3 spent on care. Each day, the charity spends £23,731 supporting local families.
